Linux App Summit 2026
Organizing the 10th Linux App Summit — leading outreach, fundraising, and social media strategy that doubled online viewership and hit record attendance
Overview
Organized the 10th Linux App Summit — a joint GNOME/KDE conference focused on encouraging app development for the Linux platform. Leading the outreach, fundraising, and social media campaign for the event.
Linux App Summit brings together developers, designers, distributions, and ecosystem maintainers to grow the Linux app ecosystem through technologies like Flatpak that enable direct app delivery to users.
Key Responsibilities & Results
- 10th year organizing LAS and its predecessor, LAS GNOME — a showcase of GNOME and KDE working together
- Social media transformation — replaced Buffer with Mixpost, a self-hosted social media platform with analytics, editorial workflow, and a collaborative workspace shared across the organizing team (now adopted by GNOME’s own accounts)
- Multi-platform strategy — expanded beyond Mastodon to LinkedIn, BlueSky, YouTube, and Instagram with per-platform content strategies and goals
- Influencer engagement — appeared on Tux Digital podcast with Aleix Pol (90 minutes, ~8k views), plus media partnerships with 9to5Linux, It’s FOSS, TuxDigital, and Linux Magazine
- Record attendance — 110 in-person attendees (venue capacity 100), 156 registered, 71% conversion rate vs the 50% industry average for free events
- Doubled online viewership — 2k + 2.7k views on the two conference days (more than 2x the previous year), 4.9k aggregate on individual talk videos, ~9.6k total
- Organic content experiments — a spontaneous podcast-style YouTube conversation with Matthias Clasen (354 views) informed future video strategy
Impact
- Proved the value of a data-driven, multi-platform outreach strategy for open source events
- Built a reusable social media infrastructure (Mixpost) now serving GNOME’s own accounts
- Established a model for breaking out of the fediverse into mainstream developer platforms
